Research and Development Engineer, Mass Spec

The R&D Engineer will join our Chemistry Development team to be a key contributor in providing support, equipment reliability, run maintenance programs for LC/MS and HPLC systems. The scope of the job includes handling all our QTOF mass spec, HPLCs, and UPLCs instrumentation and associated equipment. The ideal candidate should be able to identify failure modes and implement corrective and preventive actions to improve equipment reliability. Although the primary responsibility is support and maintenance of analytical equipment, this role provides a great opportunity to grow into an analytical scientist. This role will report to the Analytical Scientist of Chemistry Development group.

What You'll Do:

  • Perform the repair, preventative maintenance, qualification, and validation of QTOF mass spec, HPLCs, and UPLCs systems and associated equipment.
  • Provide guidance for test methods, new equipment, sample plan definition, and validation development.
  • Maintain a service schedule, track repair tickets, manage spare parts inventories, and create accurate service reports.
  • Respond to repairs and failures in a timely manner. Identify and document failures, their root causes, and corrective actions.
  • Monitor equipment performance and determine appropriate reliability steps to improve equipment uptime.
  • Provide guidance and decisions on product development activities to ensure compliance with internal procedures and applicable regulatory or international standards.
  • Interface with vendors where necessary. Document findings and recommendations with the objective of implementing process improvements.
  • Analyze inspection findings to determine source of problem and recommend repair, replacement, or other corrective action.
  • Ready to learn and take up some new analytical chemistry projects focusing on ESI-MS.

About You:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering or scientific discipline and/ or equivalent experience.
  • 1-3 years hands-on experience as a Service Engineer preferred, particularly working with analytical instrumentation.
  • 1-3 years hands-on experience with Liquid Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry instrumentation (LC/ MS)
  • Ability to recommend and implement sustainable improvements across the organization.
  • Strong communication skills
  • High degree of attention to detail
  • Experienced with analytical method development and validation preferred.

Nice to Have:

  • GMP work experience
  • Oligonucleotide synthesis and characterization, especially HPLC and LC/MS
  • Some knowledge in Python coding and scripting
  • Experience in Mass Spec especially (QTOF)
  • Experience in HPLCs
