ABOUT SINGULAR GENOMICS

Singular Genomics is inventing at the forefront of genomics, one of the world’s fastest-growing industries. The commercially available G4® Sequencing Platform is a powerful, highly versatile benchtop genomic sequencer designed to produce fast and accurate results. In addition, the company is currently developing the G4X™ Spatial Sequencer, an upgrade to the G4, which will leverage Singular’s proprietary sequencing technology, applying it as an in situ readout for transcriptomics, proteomics and fluorescent H&E in tissue, with spatial context. Singular Genomics’ mission is to empower researchers and clinicians to advance science and medicine.

We foster a culture of creativity and technical excellence, both catalysts for innovation. We celebrate diversity, emphasize collaboration and, as we rapidly mature, we are constantly looking at ways we can do better for our people.

Our Headquarters are located on the Torrey Pines Mesa, in La Jolla, California at the center of the biotech hub. Our Manufacturing facility is in Sorrento Valley. This role reports to our HQ location.

Position Summary:

As a Senior Research Associate, on the Applications (Spatial Proteomics) team, you will support assay development by maintaining and sectioning FFPE tissue blocks using our novel tissue mounting system; establish and further develop our antibody content onboarding process; aid in expanding our assay to new tissue types, and provide guidance and expert advice when handling valuable clinical or research samples.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in FFPE tissue sectioning and assessment using histochemical staining such as H&E, bring a deep expertise in antibody staining (e.g., IHC, IF) using a variety of microscopy readouts (brightfield, fluorescence etc), and be comfortable following established complex assay workflows with an ability to optimize them.

You will be working with a multidisciplinary team of scientists in the fields of surface chemistry, engineering, biochemistry and bioinformatics. This role is ideally suited to a candidate who is self-motivated and excited by a startup environment where opportunity to rise to frequent and diverse challenges is commonly encountered.

Responsibilities:

  • Operate a microtome to produce consistent, high quality FFPE tissue sections to support multidisciplinary teams
  • Maintain and develop panels of antibodies, DNA-conjugated antibodies, and FFPE tissues and cell pellets.
  • QC antibodies and FFPE tissues prior to inserting into assay development workflows.
  • Actively contribute to developing in situ workflows from ideation to product launch.
  • Careful experimental design and quality control methods for emerging technologies and products
  • Establish standards for onboarding multi-omic content for spatial profiling of biomolecules and assessing their performance in standard and new tissue types
  • Collaboration and effective communication with team members in (surface) chemistry, biochemistry, systems integration, image analysis, and bioinformatics.
  • Maintain meticulous notes and databases of relevant reagents, experiments, equipment, and other processes
  • Write and manage SOPs and other documentation

Qualifications:

  • B.Sc. in Biochemistry/biomedical sciences or related field plus 5+ years of industry or clinical experience.
  • Hands on experience in precision microtomy with a focus on minimizing tissue loss of precious samples.
  • Expertise handling precious and finite pathology samples
  • Deep understanding of healthy and diseased clinical samples
  • Working knowledge of fluorescence microscopy.
  • Experience with immunofluorescence, immunohistology, etc
  • Experience operating a cryostat to generate fresh frozen sections is preferred.

The estimated base salary range for this role based in the United States of America is: $75,000 - $106,300. Compensation decisions are dependent on several factors including, but not limited to, an individual’s qualifications, location where the role is to be performed, internal equity, and alignment with market data.
