Associate Director/Director of Chemical Data Analytics
Scorpion Therapeutics
Scorpion Therapeutics is a precision oncology company founded in February 2020 by a preeminent group of scientists from Harvard University/Massachusetts General Hospital – Keith Flaherty, MD, Gaddy Getz, Ph.D. and Liron Bar-Peled, Ph.D. The company has raised $270M in Series A and Series B financings led by blue-chip investors, including Atlas Venture, Boxer Capital of Tavistock Group, EcoR1 Capital, LLC, Omega Funds, and Vida Venture.
Scorpion Therapeutics’ mission is to serve oncology patients by discovering and developing best-in-class and first-in-class, small molecule cancer medicines that address large patient segments with significant unmet medical needs. To accomplish this mission, we are building a highly collaborative team focused on the pursuit of novel approaches to small molecule drug discovery. This approach relies upon dynamic collaboration between cancer biology, proteomics, informatics, structural biology and medicinal chemistry – with the ultimate goal of realizing the full potential of targeted/precision oncology.
The Chemical Data Science team is looking for an exceptional scientist who can develop data analytics workflows and machine learning models to enhance our chemical proteomics dataset of over half a billion (and growing!) compound-peptide interactions and generate hypotheses around ligandable cysteines across the proteome. In addition, you’ll work with our chemistry team to identify opportunities to develop walk-up tools to enable drug discovery efforts. This is a unique opportunity to integrate and work closely with medicinal chemistry, proteomics and the data science team to enhance the Scorpion platform and contribute to our drug discovery pipeline.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and integrate approaches to help prioritize targets based on our proteomics data
- Collaborate with the proteomics and Library design team to develop machine learning models to predict compound reactivity, cysteine reactivity, identify privileged scaffolds, and contribute to library enhancement campaigns
- Contribute to the further enhancement of the Data Science platform and infrastructure (generative chemistry, transfer/multi-task learning, multi-objective optimization)
- Develop custom analytics solutions to enable drug discovery project teams
- Stay up-to-date with the latest developments in advanced machine learning approaches
- Pro-actively identify external datasets that could enhance internal datasets for predictive model development
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS
- MS or Ph.D. degree in a scientific field coupled with data analytics experience, or computational sciences
- 5+ years of experience supporting and impacting drug discovery teams
- Strong understanding of concepts in chemical structure and protein sequence and structure
- Expertise in large-scale data handling, mining, clustering, and visualization
- Experience building and validating classification and regression predictive models
- Programming and statistical analysis skills, including in Python and R
- Comfortable using cheminformatics and data analytics applications such as RDKit, OEChem, or other chemistry toolkits to build analysis workflows
- Expertise in a subset of open source machine learning platforms, such as TensorFlow, Pytorch, Pandas, XGBoost, DeepChem or Scikit-Learn is highly desired
- You are a great communicator who enjoys working in a highly integrated, fast-moving cross-functional environment
